I must say that I do love a good crossover game. I also must say that X-Men vs. Street Fighter was maybe one of the coolest sub-genre starting games of all time. I finally, must also say that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is probably in the top 3 of all time fighting games for me.
While we’re on that subject, Mortal Kombat (probably most specifically MK2) as a series will round out at number 2, with the Street Fighter series (either Alpha 3 or SF3:3 here) taking top spot. Being such a MK fan, I never discount a new Mortal Kombat game. Ok fine, I usually don’t discount a Mortal Kombat game.
I truly don’t know what to make of this. It is an odd concept to initially grasp (although I don’t know how its any different than Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter). Maybe MVSSF was easier to grasp due to the fact that Marvel Super Heroes was already a game on its own. Nevertheless, oddly I will be looking forward to this game. I’m excited to see the list of characters, and look forward to seeing some fatalities from Batman and Superman.
What do other people think? (pretty sure I’m wasting my time asking that since we all know that even if you read, you don’t comment… yes… I’m talking to you)
Oh yeah, and here’s the trailer:

Actually, it’s been stated that there will be no fatalities. Apparently they don’t want to see their beloved characters decapitated?

Yes I read an article stating that as well. But from what I understand it is an ex-employee who leaked that and it may or may not be true. I find it hard to believe they would release one without fatalities, I guess we will have to wait for more solid info

“According to Boon, there will definitely be fatality-like finishing moves, but they may not be called fatalities. After all, it’s doubtful that Superman or Batman would be ripping out anyone’s spines or hearts. That said, the team is hellbent on pushing the limits to what they can do with the DC characters, so you can expect to see blood and some level of damage accumulate during a fight.”

So, it may not be as violent as the previous MK entries, but looks like they’ll try their hardest. It’s also mentioned in the article that they are shooting for a rating below M, so take from that what you will.

OK good enough for me, I hadn’t read that so…

I’m not an expert on fighting games but that scene as they fall looked pretty cool. With the information we have so far I’d say this game is more of a ‘rent it for a week’ type.

Quote from a Mr. Boon
“There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone or that finishing moves will be gone,” said Boon. “We did acknowledge that we won?t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone’s head off and the spine being attached to it. But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game, that there are no fatalities in the game. It’s an assumption that, because the DC characters will be in there, those features will have to be dropped. My response is that, no, we’re modifying fatalities… The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it’s certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series.”
Put that in your pipe and smoke it Tusva!
