Icon look familiar? It probably should if you browse the Internet at all. I’m putting together this simple page for people new to the blog scene - or more specifically RSS.
I am no expert, so if you have better information, please do share, I will update this.
RSS, or “Really Simple Syndication”, is exactly that. An extremely simple method of syndication. Essentially, it lets you manage a subscription to a website without ever having to visit the site unless there is a post that interests you. If you subscribe via RSS, you will end up with a little button on your browser at the top, that produces a nice drop down menu of all of the posts on Peppercorn Nation (or whatever else you use RSS for). Click on the one you like, and it brings you here. Simple enough.
Now, the how to:
Firefox
1. From the homepage, http://www.peppercornnation.com, find the RSS icon. There will be one in the right hand column, one on the right side of the address bar at the top of the browser, or by simply clicking Entries RSS on the left hand column.
2. If your browser pops up your Bookmark window, jump to step 6
3. If you are looking at a Google page that is asking you to subscribe using Google, you can use this method, or use the more convenient method of embedding it directly into Firefox. Click on Tools -> Options -> Feeds.
4. Live Bookmarks are the easiest method. Subscribe to the feed using: -> and select Live Bookmarks.
5. If you are still having issues with Google forcing you to use theirs, go back into Feed Options, and select “Show me a preview and ask me which Feed Reader to use”. This should allow you to select Live Bookmarks from the new page. Go back to Peppercorn Nation and select the RSS icon again.
6. Name the bookmark and select Bookmarks Toolbar Folder.
7. You now should have a handy little icon at the top of your Firefox, with a drop down menu of the posts on Peppercorn Nation!
Internet Explorer
1. Download Firefox.
2. If you are stubborn, go to www.peppercornnation.com
3. Click on the RSS icon built in to the latest version of IE in the top right corner.
4. Select Peppercorn Nation, and select Subscribe to this Feed.
5. Now when you want to look at it, click on Favourites -> Feeds -> Peppercorn Nation.
6. You now get a lame version of my blog.
Other Browsers
